Problems With SceneWriter Pro
 |
A
series of Error Messages are displayed when SceneWriter
Pro is run
 |
This problem is usually because there is no
default printer driver installed on your system.
If you do not have a printer installed on your
system, please follow these instructions to
install a generic printer driver:
- Go to your Windows Control Panel from the
Start Menu, then choose "Printers And
Faxes".
- Click on ADD new printer. Follow the instructions
to install the printer driver.
- If prompted for a printer port, choose "FILE"
instead of "LPT1"
- When prompted for a printer model, scroll
down to "Generic manufacturer" and
choose "Generic Text Only" as the
printer.

SceneWriter
Pro crashes when typing or doesn't behave as it should
 |
The most probable cause is your RichEdit control
being out of date. The RichEdit control is a
Microsoft library that is used by SceneWriter
Pro (and other programs such as MS Word)
to render text on the screen.
Solution:
If the RichEdit control was not automatically
updated when you first ran SceneWriter
Pro, you will have to manually update
the RichEdit control.
Before you begin, you will need to make
sure that "Hide File Extensions
for known file types" is NOT checked
in your computer's Folder Options as you
need to be able to see the .dll extension
at the end of the files.
You may change this by opening My Computer,
and selecting "Folder Options"
from the View / Tools menu. (Depending on
which version of Windows you are running) |
- Close ALL programs that are are currently
running - to make sure, you could restart
your computer.
- Open Explorer. (Windows Key + E)
- Search for "riched20.dll". (without
quotes)
- You should see riched20.dll in the search
results. Make a note of the folder it's contained
in.
- Make a COPY of the file as a backup.
- Open SceneWriter Pro's install directory.
The default path is C:\Program Files\VA\SceneWriter
Pro.
- You should see a file there called "Update20.dll".
- Make a COPY of that file.
- Rename the COPY of that file to "riched20.dll"
- without quotes.
- Copy this to the folder which you located
in step 4 and REPLACE the existing file.
- Restart your computer.
